Gaining Bailey's trust

Hi everyone! I’m Vanessa, and this is Bailey - my first rescue, and by extension my first NDR rescue. I was able to get in touch with his foster in Korea through IG, and he was rescued with 200 other dogs from a dog meat farm (this part I knew) a few years ago…from that time on, he lived with his foster who said it took two years for him to even start coming out of his shell.

When he first got here, I think he was so nervous of a new place and of getting into trouble he barely wanted to move and mainly stayed on the blanket he came with. I’ve honestly never had to work so hard to gain an animal’s trust. Turns out, he’s kind of a goofball, loves walks and other animals, definitely has some quirks (I have to get into the backseat of the car first before him, will pile up treats for later). And it may not seem like a big deal but FINALLY, a few days ago, he made the brave (for him) decision to try the couch and has discovered just how comfy it is and doesn’t want to get off lol…though he’s rolled off a couple times. I’ve been sleeping out on the couch with him the past few nights now too so he knows it’s ok and isn’t by himself. He’s also now bffs with my little Emily.
