As we look back at the last three years, with the pandemic in the rear-view mirror, we would like to acknowledge and honour the service and sacrifice of our community heroes – veterans, police officers, firefighters, and emergency service personnel that worked tirelessly during this time.

The Companionship Initiative is a remarkable program that seeks to bring solace, support, and healing through the unbreakable bond between humans and their four-legged companions.

Founded on the belief that a dog can be more than just a pet; it can be a lifeline, a confidant, and a source of unwavering love, this initiative has set out to match rescue dogs with those who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting our communities. It is a testament to the power of empathy and the recognition that heroes, too, deserve heroes of their own.

For veterans returning from a deployment, the transition to civilian life can often be daunting. The scars, both physical and emotional, are not always visible to the naked eye. The Companionship Initiative understands that the therapeutic companionship of a rescue dog can be a powerful force in aiding veterans on their journey to healing and adjustment. Eligible adopters and their rescues will also receive initial training to ensure a successful transition to their new families.
