Meet Mister Rocky (20241120-04)
Additional Info:
Mister Rocky is a miracle pup. He’s been through so much, and it’s evident how grateful he is to be alive. From the moment we first picked him up, he’s been unstoppably happy and loving. He bonds strongly with his people, and lets them know how happy he is to be with them. I don’t think he ever had his own special person before, and it’s clear how much family, safety, and love mean to him.
Shortly after arriving, he had a major medical emergency requiring surgery. He stopped breathing in the ICU awaiting his surgery, and had to be resuscitated. It was unclear if he would even survive the anesthesia. It turns out he only has one working lung, and his body produces fluid which had built up in his chest cavity. He’s a real tough cookie, and he amazed everyone by not only surviving the surgery, but also recovering quickly. He received amazing care at King Animal Hospital, where the surgeon installed a port in his side in order to drain the fluid when it builds up. So far he is doing wonderfully, both his sternum incision and port incision have healed perfectly, and everything is looking good at his post-surgical checkups.
After narrowly escaping euthanasia at a shelter in Kentucky, and then everything he went through in hospital, all Mister Rocky wants is a chance to live. He has so much love to give, and so much enthusiasm for life it brings tears to my eyes. He deserves a chance to be happy, to have a forever home, and to have a loving family of his own. His medical condition doesn’t slow him down at all, and so far only requires monitoring for signs/symptoms of needing to have his port drained (difficulty breathing, lethargy…), and periodic checkups.
In the right environment Mister Rocky will thrive and delight his family with his playfulness and enthusiasm. He needs someone willing and able to be patient while he learns things that are new for him, like crate and house training. He’s made incredible progress in the couple months he’s been with us, despite being thrown a major curve ball with his health. It won’t take him long to be a well-adjusted member of a loving family. Whoever adopts Mister Rocky will be very lucky to have him as their baby.
Backstory: Mister Rocky was brought into the shelter in rural Kentucky after he was found as a stray.
He is all around a very good boy! He likes other dogs, loves humans and loves to play. He would love an active home to take him on adventures and love on him!
Foster comments:
Mister Rocky loves going outside and loves the snow! He is so adorable and just a little guy, he looks like a baby fox. He's a really wonderful guy, so loving, sweet, affectionate, happy and bonded with us all so quickly!
He adores our kids, gives them wild hugs and kisses, huge tail wags... he shows his belly a lot and loves belly rubs and ear/neck scratches. Mister Rocky is good on leash already. He does pull some, but he's a fast learner and very receptive to instructions. He looks to us. Someone will be very lucky, he's a great companion and with a bit of continued work he'll fit right into a home and routine, he's already learning so fast!
About
older recommended as he is very energetic and could unintentionally knock over a little one with his enthusiasm.
is very playful and would love a similar energy/age playmate. (He sometimes bothers his older foster brother pups because he always wants to play, but is learning how to respect differences in energy/space day by day.)
needs work. He doesn’t like the crate at all currently
med/high
very friendly and affectionate, loves pets. Once he burns off some steam he loves to snuggle.
Possibly, he wants to chase squirrels and he loves to run.
has a special harness and does well with it. Since his surgery we’ve only been walking him around our yard and on the occasional short outing, but he’s been doing great so far.
if bored
he’d like one but his activity needs to be monitored/restricted because he has only one lung, so walks will work just fine.
Has 1 lung and a permanent drain to remove excess fluid
